Flights arriving in Germany from the US typically
land early in the morning. Due to the time difference, your body
will be telling you it is night and time to sleep, while the sunshine
and clocks will be saying good morning. This body clock confusion
leads to jet lag that can be a somewhat debilitating condition in the
days following your arrival. Studies have shown that it typically
takes one day for every time zone traveled through for your body clock
to reset itself.
Most people get off the plane, settle in their
hotel room, and take a nice long nap. They then find themselves
lying wide awake in the middle of the night praying for the morning to
arrive. By the next afternoon they are dragging around on the
verge of sleep at any moment.
To trick your body clock and
minimize the effects of jet lag, it is best to get as much sleep on the
plane as you possibly can, then fight any urges to nap at the hotel
after arriving. Stay awake until an appropriate local bedtime
(after 8:00 PM). this should get your body accustomed to the new
time zone and get your sleep cycle on track.
