The
allure of the GRAND CANAL never fades. The canal,
Venice's version of Main Street, slices through the heart of the
city, dividing it in two. It is crossed by
three bridges and
seven ferry points. The canal is lined with magnificent
palaces, built over the course of 500 years and each a masterpiece
of architecture and style. During the day, the canal is as
busy as the main street of any city, with water busses, taxis,
ferries, and gondolas motoring up and down the waterway. At
night, the Grand Canal is the definition of romance, with its open
air restaurants and lights twinkling on the water.
