MOVING ALLOWANCES
|
Military Finance is always confusing,
and this is especially true when moving overseas. Read our
Military Finance Tips and Essential Information to ensure to find out
more about your Military Money Matters. Armed with this
knowledge, you can protect your interests and ensure that you get
everything that you are entitled to.
DISLOCATION ALLOWANCE
DisLocation Allowance (DLA) is an allowance given to servicemembers
when they have a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), not including the
servicemembers' PCS to their first duty station. DLA also does
not apply to a move to the servicemember's Home of Record (when
leaving active duty).
DLA guidelines and applicability are covered in the
JFTR, Chapter 5, Part G. DLA is intended to partially
reimburse the expense of relocating a household (in addition to the
expenses not otherwise reimbursed). While this allowance may not
cover all of your relocation expenses, it will certainly help out.
How much DLA you receive is based on your grade and how many
dependents you have at the time of your PCS. Here you can access
current DLA rates.
Partial DLA is also available to servicemembers who are ordered to
move into or out of Government family quarters outside of a PCS (ie
when quarters are being renovated). This payment, as of 1
January 2003, is $525.30.
